Time: 1:05 p.m.
Venue: Tweeter Center—Camden, NJ

Group: Killswitch Engage
Adam Dutkiewicz-Guitar & Howard Jones-Vocals

My assistant, Jo and I had the privilege of interviewing Adam Dutkiewicz and Howard Jones,
who was asked to stay for moral support by Adam! These guys were a ton of fun to interview! Most of the interview was spent laughing and getting off track! There were some debates over certain questions. We weren’t able to ask as many questions as I would have liked to, but we got some information for you!

Becky Collins: How long has the group been together?

Adam Dutkiewicz: I don’t even know. (Laugh) I don’t remember. I think ’99, I’m not sure. Help me Howard!
Howard Jones: Uh, I think about…
Adam: When did we get together?
Howard: Uh…
Adam: You probably know the band’s history better than I do right now.
Howard: This morning about 8:30 [or] 9 a.m.
Adam: Exactly. You know the history better than I do right now.
Howard: Yeah, It’s been about 3-4 years
Adam: Yeah, I’d say 3 or 4 years…Help me (Laugh)
Howard: I said 3-4 years (yelling from the tour bus door)
Becky: How has your day been going so far?
Adam: Good! I’m drunk! (Laugh) Very good!
Becky: How do you like being on the Ozzfest tour?
Adam: It’s alright, it’s cool! It sucks playing at 9:30 in the morning ‘cause you know I’m all tired and groggy and you know falling over and I don’t know what I’m doing. Buy hey…whatever!
Becky: What was the wildest city you played?
Adam: The wildest city?
Becky: Yeah!
Adam: Howard, what is the wildest city?
Howard: Uh…
Adam: Give me the wildest city?
Howard: LA
Adam: Was that really the wildest city?
Howard: Umm…LA possibly Columbus.
Adam: Columbus…really?
Howard: Possibly
Adam: Well we played right before Voivod in Columbus, so maybe Columbus.
Becky: The worst?
Adam: The worst? Sacramento! Because…
Howard: The worst? Where are we?
Adam: Ooooh! Where are we? I don’t even know.
Howard: No the worst was the second day of Detroit.
Adam: Really?
Howard: That was terrible.
Adam: That was kinda shitty.
Howard: It was boring. We honestly bored the hell out of everybody.
Adam: Dude I’m definitely a fan of the off dates! Trust me! (Laugh)
Becky: Who are your musical influences?
Adam: Oooh!
Howard: Jesus!
Adam: (Laugh) The Neville Brothers, definitely. Journey. OH MY GOD! I fucking love Journey. You have no idea! You have no idea!
Becky: How was your first studio experience?
Adam: My first studio experience? Umm, it was fun. Well I produced the record so back then it was okay, you know. Everything went smoothly, you know and stuff. It went great, you know. These guys are real troopers in the studio. I make them work.
Becky: They were okay with you producing the record?
Adam: Absolutely! They actually trust me, which is very weird. I wouldn’t let them trust me, but they do, so it works out! It’s all good, dude!
Becky: What was the transition from drums to guitar like?
Adam: Wonderful! Because, listen…you can lick your guitar but you can’t lick your drums. So… [That’s] all I got to say.
Howard: You can, but it would take longer.
Adam: Yeah. It doesn’t look as cool. If you lick your guitar it looks fuckin’ rad! It’s very gross licking cymbals. It’s not good at all.
Jo: Metal.
Adam: Exactly. Metal on tongue…it’s dirty. You don’t know where those things have been.
Becky: How do you prepare for your shows?
Adam: Today…I woke up, rubbed my eyes and played! That’s how I prepare. Ooh, today, I put on my daisy dukes and wife beater shirt. That’s what I do.
Jo: Do you have a show tomorrow night?
Adam: Tomorrow night? Yeah!
Howard: Syracuse.
Adam: Syracuse…Yeah. Syracuse is always rad. We played the club before and it’s really cool. The hard core kids representing!
Howard: Word.
Adam: And there’s a nice restaurant across the street. Isn’t there a Mexican, right?
Howard: I don’t remember.
Adam: Burritos…yum! Burritos are the answer to life. If you ever have a bad day, just eat a Burrito and your life will be changed.
Becky: I don’t like them, so I’ll take your word for it! My last question if you could meet any artist/star, who would it be and why?
Howard: Prince.
Adam: Prince? Neal Schon…I’d love to meet Neal!
