Criss Angel - Mindfreak

My brother once told me that you lose journalistic integrity the minute you like someone. I am guilty of liking Criss Angel. Before he knew that he had done an interview for this site he had already offered to sign a free poster for me. The man is just very human and fun to talk to- and I have to thank him for how well he treated my friend and I. If you do see the show, he does not let you leave without saying hello as he positions himself between the theater door and the exit. It is truly refreshing to find stars who still appreciate their fans.
I have seen his show twice. From the minute you walk in and a tall man in a brown cloak named "Usher" tries to startle you, you know you're going to enjoy yourself. Its a fast paced, action filled, 70 minute MINDFREAK- just watch out for the big monster, I know he gives a friend of mine nightmares. In the end, you'll probably have figured out how one or two illusions work, and you may ask yourself why the levitation volunteer seemed so confident but his charisma and charm will have won you over and you may just go again.

1) What are you currently up to? (plug your site, your shows, merch, etc)

(CA) I perform MINDFREAK 10 times a week at the World Underground Theater (visit http://www.crissangel.com for more information) on Broadway and 43rd in the heart of Times Square NYC until January 2003. MINDFREAK is a provocative journey through the mind, body and spirit that stands in supernatural defiance of all logical reason. The audience members are in the round and in such close proximity to the illusions, creatures and EFX that they are left to wonder if they will ever be able to trust their senses again.

2) Who were your influences as a child, more specifically the people who drew you to your profession?

(CA) My influences varied greatly in many art forms but I would have to say my parents had the profound effect.

Do you have a particular illusion you like the most?

(CA) They’re all my children - I can’t pick one.

Are there any other current acts similar to your own that you enjoy?

(CA) I’ve tried to push the envelope in my art by combining many forms – I’m unaware of anything that is of this new breed.

3) What do you like to do when you are alone? (this question can be as interesting or as boring as you like. )

(CA) Think + Envision = Create.

4) If you were the first ever "president god" what would you outlaw and why?

(CA) Sleep, it’s a waste of time.

5) If you could be anyone other than yourself -whether they be dead, alive, fictitious, it doesn't matter- who would you be and why?

(CA) Someone who society would perceive to be dealt life's worst hand because they seem to find happiness from the simplest things that we take for granted.

6) Tell us ONE thing that is either embarrassing or little known about yourself.

(CA) I was born in 1874.
